Staggering recent long-read from The Atlantic on the offensive realist, detailing his approach to international politics succinctly but with sophistication and explaining why he thinks we should forget about the Middle East and start focusing on China. I can’t pick one quote from it, but I strongly urge everyone to read the whole article. You will know by now I think the realist resources for understanding the world are hugely impoverished, but when it is expressed this bluntly and with such bite I still shake at the real possibility that the impression of value and peace is nothing but mere illusion.
