This better be an anomaly. The prospect of losing the most centrist, high-quality broadsheet in Britain because Murdoch is socially compelled to ditch another of his money-bleeding papers isn’t nice to think about. It’ll take much more than this for us to get to that though, of course. And even if the use of illegal, morally ambiguous means to get stories was or indeed is more systematic than this one-off anecdote implies, no doubt the fact it will be in search of stories not to do with celebrity gossip and murder victims ensures it could never pack the social punch that the NOTW-Dowler incident did.
